I am not an attorney, albeit a few years as a paralegal in my background back when I was curious about a law career, and then I became enamored of a technology career. The SLBA is the first organization I have joined in which I am at a loss to contribute; except that I know a good deal about IPSEC, SOX, and PCI regulations having earned a patent at the retail POS layer. should that ever become relevant. However, I value my membership primarily to hear the attorney's perspectives as internet law evolves, I would otherwise have to rely entirely on the news media. I do have a curious tax situation in my home state, relevant to my conference hosting business in SL that doesn't fit anywhere into its sales taxing code. So I must confess to a purely selfish motivation to stay in touch through this more familiar connection to the profession, for as long as laypersons are welcomed as members.
