(2011) Election information and deadlines

We urge anyone who is interested in becoming more active to run for a position in the 2011-2012 SL Bar Association board.

SELF NOMINATION IS OPEN

Deadline to self-nominate: September 16 at 11:59 pm Pacific (SLT)

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS at the general meeting on September 17.

VOTING opens September 19. Vote in-world at the SLBA offices.

Voting will remain open until October 1, at 11:59 pm Pacific (SLT). Election results will be announced after voting closes.

President-Elect/President: The President will run General Meetings and act as the public face of the organization. The President-Elect takes over the office of President on February 1 of the year following elections. In the meantime, the current president continues in that role.

In order to allow the President to carry out his or her duties as the public face of the SLBA, the President-Elect (and thus, the President) must:

 

• be a lawyer qualified to practice law, conduct litigation, act as advocate, and/or give legal advice, in at least one first-life jurisdiction, in accordance with the laws and rules of professional conduct (if any) of that jurisdiction and

• make his or her "first life" name and bar memberships publicly available. No other offices require lawyer status or disclosure of any first life information.

Vice President, Communications: The Vice President, Communications will manage the web site and forums and takes office October 1.

Vice President, Finance: The Vice President, Finance will handle financial matters and takes office October 1.

VP Communication and VP Finance take office the October 1 following elections. The President-Elect takes over the office of President on February 1 of the year following elections.

Executive Board (three members at large): The Executive Board consists of the President. the President Elect (during the portion of the year that the office exists), the Vice Presidents, all former Presidents, and three elected members.

The formal role of the Executive Board is to set the agenda for meetings and make administrative decisions on proposals that need not go before the entire membership.
